Don’t Get Left Soaked in The Storm, Protect Your Assets with Flood Insurance
Flood insurance IS NOT included in your homeowners’, renters or condominium insurance. Many people are
unaware of this exclusion! A flood insurance policy is essential because flooding is the number one
natural disaster in the United States.
Heavy rains in Vermont are the culprit in most floods. A few inches of rain can cause thousands of
dollars in damage if water finds its way into your home. If you have surface water around your house
from rivers, streams, ponds or lakes, you may be at even higher risk.
Flood maps, created by the United States government, indicate the locations of flood zones. If you live
in a flood zone and hold a mortgage on your home, then your mortgage lender will require flood
insurance. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is a government funded program operated by the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
